A vasectomy also called ‘male sterilisation’ prevents a woman getting pregnant by cutting, tying or blocking the tubes that lets sperm to pass from the testicles and out of a man’s body through the penis. This is done via a surgical procedure.
A vasectomy has a lifetime failure rate of about 1 in 2,000. This means of 2,000 men who are sterilised only one will get a woman pregnant during the rest of his lifetime.
